Converting Microsoft Office 2007 Files
CSD will begin installing MS Office 2007 in the spring of 2008 upon NSCC campus computers. However, a number of students are currently using Microsoft Office 2007 - Word, Power Point, and Excel - for assignments that our campus version - MS Office 2003 - does not recognize. Here are two ways for students who use Office 2007 to resolve this problem for on campus use.
- Request of those who are using MS Office 2007 or other word processors for that matter to save in a Rich Text format (RTF). RTF can be read by most word processors.
- Request of those whom are using MS Office 2007 to save files in the 2003 format.
Directions for Office 2007 Users:
Open the MS Office 2007 menu (click the icon) > Save as >
Select “Word 97-2003 Document” or for RTF select "Other Formats"
Other File Compatibility Solutions
- Free Converter for Home Use
- Works
- Open Office
- Microsoft has a free download of their Office Compatibility Pack for home use that will open Office 2007 files within older versions of MS Office. This pack can be downloaded from microsoft.com
- Works 7 is compatible with MS Word; however older versions word processor files still need to be saved as an RTF file rather than the default.
- This application is free as a download and performs better that Works. Rather than use Works we encourage the use of Open Office. A download of the application may be obtained from openoffice.org.
